As a commission artist, I rarely get the chance to create something that's solely because I feel like it. I actually prefer having a particlar goal or deadline I need to meet for a commission, When I'm just painting to paint, I find myself distracted and feel like my time would be better spent completing one of the million other tasks waiting for me.
My "Hawaii Style" Buddha painting with plumerias was one of these rare paintings I created on my own time, simply because I had the image in my mind and needed to put it down on canvas. I put it up for display at "Under the Bodhi Tree" at The Shops at Mauna Lani, thinking it fit in with the vibe.
Apparently there was a reason I created this piece. Today I met a woman who'd visited the cafe every time she'd come to the island. She frequented Waikoloa to attend conferences for ancient Hawaiian spirituallty and Healing. She felt the painting was meant for her, and captured the energy of her visits to Hawaii perfectly. She already had the image as her screen saver when I met up with her today to deliver the painting. I love that this painting will represent so much more to her than just a generic Hawaiian image. It will be a reminded of her experiences at the conferences, reinforcing the lessons and practices she learned there., Hopefully it will also bring forth the peaceful ambience and good energy of the great little vegan/vegetarian cafe "Under the Bodhi Tree"
Maybe every painting I create is intended for someone,
I just may not have met them yet.
